Closer Look: Diem

5 Mar

ImageThis “Closer Look” is about a fan favorite, Diem. We were first introduced to Diem on Fresh Meat. She was the second to last female picked and we didn’t really know what to expect from her. She revealed to her partner Derrick that she was recently diagnosed with ovarian cancer. She then did a very respectable thing and tried to keep it quiet. She did not want a free ride, she did not want pity and this showed us what type of person she is. Her and Derrick then went on to win 3 in a row and lose in the last exile to the eventual champs, Darrell and Aviv.  Her next Challenge was the Duel. Diem won 3 challenges and showed she is a strong competitor. Even more impressive however was her taking off her wig, that showed us how strong of a person she was. Then she lost to Aneesa in the duel I Can, in what was one of the saddest moments in Challenge history. She was then on Gauntlet 3 and athletically didn’t show much because of how dominant the Veteran team was. Ct and Diem’s relationship was displayed during this Challenge and during the reunion it was revealed that they broke up. (It was rumored that when Ct’s brother died Diem was suppose to fly out to help him through it but was unable to, again just a rumor.) She was then in the Duel 2 and sh%t hit the fan very quickly. Details of CT and Diem’s break up surfaced and when CT saw Adam talking to Diem he got into the biggest fight in Challenge history. Then Diem knocked out Jenn in a tough duel of Push Me. She then lost in a heartbreaker to Brittani and was sent home in the last duel. Her next Challenge was the Ruins; she was on the Challenger team and was viewed by the team as their female leader. She then lost in a shocker to Tonya in the first Ruin. She then came back after a bit of a break to the Battle of the Exes. Her and CT were arguably the couple with the most baggage and we weren’t sure how they would compete as a team. They flew under the radar until the end when they came up in the clutch and won the last two, giving them a spot in the finals. They were winning most of the finals with Diem leading the way with her long distance running. They ended up losing to Johnny and Camila. Diem is arguably one of the best female competitors that has yet to win. In my opinion she is the strongest competitor ever. It’s hard to carry heavy bags in an exile, but its much harder to beat cancer twice. Diem is beautiful, entertaining woman who is an inspiration to us all.

Warning: You may cry from this video. I’m man enough to admit I did.
